A manicure is a cosmetic treatment that basically involves taking complete care of the nails – starting from filing, shaping, massaging and finally applying polish. Other nail treatments can also be included in the process like the application of acrylic nails, artificial nail, nail art designs, etc. In French manicure, the only difference is that the Manicure is done to resemble natural nails.
The base of the nail is kept natural (in color) and the nail tips are painted in crisp white. It is a very old technique to paint your nails and is loved by almost every woman. French nails if done properly look very clean and sophisticated.
French manicure looks very feminine and elegant. They look great during working hours and also fun party times. They can be paired with any dress – Indian or western. You can get them done by a trained manicurist at nail salons and can opt for them to be done in acrylics, gel nails or with ordinary nailpaint. Acrylic and gel French manicure should be better left to professionals as they should be done with utmost care and if not done accurately, you can damage your nail bed. They are very costly too, In India, getting acrylics and gel nails with French tips costs around Rs. 1500 to 3000, depending on where you are getting them done. If you want to save money and don’t want to go for acrylics or gel nails, then you can do them at home with ordinary nailpaints. Here is a simple French Manicure at-home tutorial.

After your basecoat dries, apply your base color – light pink or light nude beige/ brown shade according to your choice and let it dry completely. It should be completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
When the base color dries completely, put the French manicure tip guides just under your nail smile line as shown in the picture.

Things You Will Need
For this simple but glamorous nail art are as follows:
- A base coat
- White acrylic paint / or white nail polish
- Black acrylic paint or black polish
- Purple nail polish
- A dotting tool or a toothpick
- Cotton bud and polish remover
- A glitter polishes of your choice or loose glitters
- A nail art brush
- A transparent top coat
- Stones of small size
- A silver two-way nail art pen or silver polish
Let’s get started.
Use a nice layer of base coat on your nails to prevent it from harmful effects of acrylic paint. Use white polish or acrylic paint on to the extensions of your nails. Doing French nails at home is quite easy and is not so time-consuming unless you know how to do it perfectly.
Give a nice duo finish with the help of a purple polish.
Cover the white part of the tips with silver polish or silver nail art pen.
Create some dots with the help of the blunt end of the toothpick. Draw a line with black polish demarcating the separation of the two colors and ending at the top in a curved way. Use your nail art brush for this.
Now apply a nice layer of glitter polish all over and if you do not have a glitter polish, apply transparent polish and apply some loose glitters.
Now before the glitter polish dries, apply some stones in the way that I have applied them on the edges of the black border on either side for an abstract look.
Clean up stray polishes from the edges with the help of a cotton bud and polish remover and apply two layers of top coat to prevent your design from chipping away. This will protect tha stones from falling off too.
French nails have become a rage all over the globe and doing a lot of variations in French nails also is becoming a boom. You would see a lot of Hollywood and Bollywood actresses flaunting it.
These days the white color in the French nails is also being replaced by different colors including neons, shimmers, glitters and regular colors. Different patterns are also being done to give a twist to these French tips. They also are known to suit short, medium and long nails.
